OCDIAS

The Otto Christian Dahl Institute for Austronesian Studies (OCDIAS) is a uniquely positioned academic organization, specifically focused on the Austronesian language family and associated studies and disciplines. The aspects that we are actively involved with include social and cultural ecological research, linguistic research and Austronesian language history.

Our approach, in essence, is collaboratively driven in all aspects of our organisation.

We are passionate about sharing and exchange with like-minded institutions and individuals, to promote all aspects of research and information regarding the complex and unique ecologies of Madagascar and the rest of the Austronesian world. Madagascar presents a particular melting pot of history and cultures, with influence from South East Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

Academic Hub

OCDIAS has been active in field research across Madagascar in linguistics, sociolinguistics, anthropology and other related domains since 1996. The experience produces strong arguments for merging disciplines in social research and longitudinal studies, and provides a contextual view of the language and social ecologies of societies.

Conferences and Presentations

Due to the recent COVID restrictions, our ‘in-person’ conferences and presentations have been on hold temporarily. We are excited to announce that planning is underway for a POST COVID ‘IN-PERSON’ CONFERENCE, to be held in MADAGASCAR.
